State Trustees Limited (“STL”) performs many functions including: Executor of deceased estates; Administrator of the legal and financial affairs of individuals who are the subject of Administration Orders pursuant to the Guardianship and Administration Act (1986) (Vic); Trustee of trusts; and Attorney under Power.

As a Corporate Lawyer, Rebecca was responsible for a range of litigation matters, including applications for provision pursuant to Part IV of the Administration and Probate Act (1958), acting for estates, beneficiaries and claimants. Rebecca also acted on, investigated and advised on: claims of misappropriation; applications to revoke or vary Administration Orders; Statutory Wills; Probate, Letters of Administration, and Probate Caveats; the interpretation and application of Trust provisions and legislation.

Nov 2009 – Dec 2010       Senior Solicitor, State Revenue Office Legal Service Branch

As a Senior Solicitor in the Legal Services Branch, Rebecca was responsible for a range of litigation matters, including Payroll tax and Duty disputes. She provided written and verbal advice to other Branches on a variety of matters, such as requests for information by other government entities and the effect of the Taxation Administration Act secrecy provisions on such a request.

June 2008 – Oct 2009      Litigator, Australian Taxation Office Legal Service Branch – Debt Litigation

As a Litigator in the Debt Litigation team, Rebecca was responsible for a range of matters, including prosecuting debt recovery matters in the Magistrates’ and County Court, defending claims against the Commissioner for reimbursement of payments received, drafting internal memos on ATO policy positions. prosecuting Applications to Wind Up Companies in insolvency in the Federal and Supreme Courts, and prosecuting Creditor’s Petitions in the Federal Magistrate’s Court.

Rebecca also corresponded with the Magistrate’s Court to develop new procedures specific to ATO matters, advised internal clients and drafted internal memos on ATO policy positions.

As an Associate in the firm’s General Civil Litigation group, Rebecca supervised and mentored other members of staff, including junior solicitors, law clerks, and secretarial staff, while working independently within the General Civil Litigation team. Rebecca also drafted Wills and advised on Estate Planning, and her clients were predominately individuals and small businesses.
